The Strassburger Story

Strassburger Windows & Doors is a leading manufacturer and distributor of high quality vinyl windows, entrance door systems, vinyl patio doors as well as decorative terrace and garden doors and skylights.

The founder of the business, Morgan Sr., was a person with true drive and determination; he gained the respect of so many people and was a true people person with a strong belief in respect and fairness.   It all started when Morgan Sr. saw an opportunity to start his business in roofing. In 1949 he started with one truck and a helper out of the family home in Kitchener . With a new growing business, a new building on Victoria St . in Kitchener became home to the Strassburger family and Strassburger Roofing and Insulation.   A three thousand square foot building was put up on the property and over many years several additions were added to accommodate the growth.

In 1952 Morgan Jr. joined the company and in 1953
Albert Strassburger joined.  It would be many years later that Bob, Cliff and Dennis Strassburger joined the company.   Over the years the company would go through many changes. From roofing, insulation, renovations and siding to manufacturing fiberglass awnings until the opening of a hardware store in 1959.   Times changed and the company reverted back to roofing and insulation.   By the late 60's and early 70's the business was concentrated strictly on insulation and soon became one of the largest insulation contractors in Canada .   It was during these years that Bob, Cliff and Dennis joined the company.

In 1977 Strassburger built a 16000 square foot facility on Colby Dr. in Waterloo . The business encompassed the installation of many insulating and fireporrfing applications.  With new government standards and programs in place, Strassburger Insulation saw the future of re-insulating homes being cut short by 15-20 years. During the early 80's the idea of getting into the manufacturing of vinyl windows was investigated.

In 1984 Strassburger made their first vinyl window. This new venture proved to be quite a challenge; however it was felt that this was the right direction and continued on. That same year a 21,000 square foot building next to the current building on Colby Drive was built, which 10,000 square feet was used for window and door manufacturing.   For the next 10 years Strassburger promoted both insulation and windows as a total energy saving package. In 1996 the opportunity to sell the insulation company arrived, which allowed the company to put all efforts into manufacturing windows and doors. This was one of the biggest challenges Strassburger took on, giving up a long-standing company to start over.

In 1998 manufacturing started on high energy thermo units for the windows.  In 2002 another addition was built to make it possible for Strassburger to manufacture the entire Boreal vinyl window system by  PH Tech and add new options and accessories to the product lines.

In 2004, Morgan Jr. retired after 52 years in the family business, many of those years serving as President.   In 2004, along with Morgan Jr.'s retirement, Bob and Dennis took over the family business as Co-Presidents.   By 2007 Bob and Dennis, saw that they had outgrown the Colby Drive properties and any further expansions were not possible.   The search for a new facility brought them to a purchase of 5 acres of land on Shirley Drive in Kitchener .   At the 2007 company Christmas party, the drawings for a new facility were unveiled to the employees.   Construction of the new Kitchener facility started in March 2008.

In September 2008, Strassburger Windows and Doors moved into the new 92,500 square foot facility. In the same time frame, a satellite office and showroom in Barrie Ontario was opened, in order to work with new dealers from that area and up to the Ottawa region.  The territory that Strassburger serviced has been growing at an exceptional rate.   What started as a focus on the Southwestern Ontario area turned into covering Ontario from the Windsor area all the way through to the Ottawa region, as well as venturing into the American market in Michigan.

Strassburger is now focusing on what has to be accomplished to stay on top.   New Paradigm Fenestration Software for the company has been implemented, which includes a new order entry program to support dealers as well as a manufacturing program, taking production, shipping and receiving to a new level of organization.   New products have been developed, including a beautiful wood interior window system, a new door program including upgrades to frame and sill options, as well as continual development of glazing options to work with Energy Star standards as well as the high standards that Strassburger promotes from years of experience.

As a company with leading edge products, dedicated staff, a dedicated customer base and a legacy of family business at the helm, Strassburger Windows and Doors looks forward to many more years of business.
